Innovative features like our americast engineered steel creates durable tubs that withstand the test of time.
Alcove tub on slab floor drain.
Specific requirements for the trap drain line and vent will vary by local building codes.
Level the tub and use a rubber mallet and a short piece of 2 by 4 to gently tap the tub into its proper place.
Alcove tubs from american standard are installed on three sides allowing for a space saving option that fits well in most standard bathrooms.
As you level and tap the tub with the rubber mallet and wood block the bottom of the tub will slowly sink into the self leveling compound you spread on the floor.
If the tub you re installing is a different size or orientation than your old one re locate.
Stand in the alcove where the bathtub will be installed so you re facing the drain.
When a tub is designed for an above floor drain connection there is space under the tub to run the drain pipes above the floor.
If it is slightly to the left of the center of the alcove you need a left handed bathtub.
If the drain opening is on the left side look for a left drain tub.
The second option is to buy a standard 60 wide shower pan with a center drain and cut a trench through the concrete slab from the tub drain to it.
This make installation on a slab much easier.
If it is slightly to the right of the center of the alcove you need a right handed bathtub.
To find out what type of tub you need face the alcove.
The side that holds the drain opening determines what type of tub you need.
Determining the handedness of the tub is just as easy.
Our drawings above show an alcove style with a front skirt.
The exclusive americast technology incorporates a glossy enamel top layer that s easy to clean a steel center for strength and a thick insulating layer to keep water warmer for a longer.
The drain will also require a p trap and must be vented.
A much smaller cut out in the slab or floor is needed just for the down pipe pictured below.
If it s on the right you need a right drain tub.
